Physis Scotland was established in 2017 by the dynamic partnership of Fiona Firman, PTSTA and Fiona Cook, PTSTA, who set out to create an exciting new home for Transactional Analysis (TA) training. The organisation has grown and developed substantially since this time, and we now have a fantastic team of tutors, admin, academic, placement and pastoral support, marketing, IT, and finance colleagues who work together to help us keep Physis Scotland buoyant and afloat, and heading in the right direction.
The TA training programme in Scotland has a long and proud history, having previously been delivered by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Institute (CPTI) and Physis Training.
With bright, beautiful rooms and spaces in the heart of the west end of Edinburgh, we offer a unique environment, in which to learn and grow through your counselling training journey.
At Physis Scotland we believe that you become the best counsellor or therapist that you can be, when you are enabled to take what you already know and have learned from life outside the therapeutic world, by weaving it to together with new knowledge and skills from within our training experience. Our trainers love to learn from our trainees as you share your perspectives and expertise with us.
All of the programmes are designed to support participants to feel secure, stretched, stimulated, valued and have fun on their journey. They are delivered in an experiential and dynamic way to achieve our strapline of
‘Grow Beyond Imagination’
We ensure our trainees meet the requirements of professional bodies such as UKCP and COSCA.
The name ‘Physis’ (pronounced Fie-sis) represents the organisation’s core values and beliefs:
• The natural force for growth and development present in every living thing
• The natural drive within an organism towards full realisation of its potential
• Energy for development, integration and ultimately for transcendence
Physis Training Ltd was founded by Barbara Clarkson in Leeds in 2010, and in 2011 took over the delivery of the training courses offered by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Institute (CPTI) in Edinburgh.
In 2017, creating a home for Scottish TA training became our focus and Fiona Cook and Fiona Firman took on the exciting challenge of developing our training programme as Physis Scotland. Barbara Clarkson officially stepped down as Director of Training in June 2019, with Fiona Cook and Fiona Firman taking over the entire training programme.
Like Barbara, both Fionas have a keen interest in a holistic view of health and wellbeing, integrating all aspects of body, mind and spirit into their psychotherapy and supervision practices, and in the development of Physis Scotland.
Physis Scotland has grown and developed substantially since this time, and we now have a fantastic team of tutors, admin, academic, placement and pastoral support, marketing, IT, and finance colleagues who work together to help us keep Physis Scotland buoyant and afloat, and heading in the right direction.
